Non-Perishable Food Items Accepted at Chapel Hill Store in Support of FoodWell Food Pantry at UNC Health through March 29
Carolina Athletics and corporate partner Wegmans announce the return of “Fill the Pantry” – a initiative to benefit the FoodWell food pantry at UNC Health, which serves to support patients and their families.
Tar Heel fans and area residents are encouraged to help “Fill the Pantry” by donating non-perishable food items accepted at Wegmans’ Chapel Hill store at 1810 Fordham Blvd. The food drive runs through March 29 for in-store donations in marked cans. The campaign will culminate and donation totals will be announced during the Spring UNC football game at Kenan Memorial Stadium.
“Delivering on our mission of supporting the health and well-being of the patients and families we serve often reaches beyond the most apparent reason why a patient first walks through our doors,” explained Janet Hadar, UNC Hospitals President. “Since spring of 2020, our FoodWell program offered supplemental food assistance to nearly 3,000 patients- thanks in large part to our community partners. I know our teammates and patients are grateful for this solution-driven partnership. Working with organizations such as Wegmans, we are fostering healthier communities together as one great team.”
Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a regional supermarket chain with 110 stores located along the east coast. The family company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016. Wegmans has been named one of the ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ by FORTUNE magazine for 25 consecutive years, ranking #3 in 2022. The company also ranked #5 for corporate reputation among the 100 most visible companies, according to the 2022 Axios Harris Poll 100 Reputation Quotient® study.
“Wegmans is committed to being a good neighbor in every community we serve. Our partnership with UNC allows us to do just that,” said Kathy Haines, Chapel Hill store manager. “We are working together to address food insecurities right here in Chapel Hill for the FoodWell program at UNC Health. We are thrilled once again this year to work with the staff at UNC to coordinate the Fill the Pantry food drive.”
