BUFFALO, NY – As part of a season-long campaign, the University at Buffalo men’s and women’s basketball teams partnered with Fidelis Care to raise money for the Buffalo Together Community Response Fund. With 150 combined blocks on the year, the amount donated totaled $3,000. Head coaches George Halcovage III and Becky Burke, along with representatives from Fidelis Care, recently presented a check at Alumni Arena.

“We take pride in giving back to the community whenever possible because those relationships are what makes Buffalo so special,” said Burke. “The support from this community is incredible and truly makes a difference in our student-athlete’s experience. We thank Fidelis Care who joined UB in supporting this fund and the impact made on our community.”

The BTCRF is a collaboration of 14 local funding organizations coordinated by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo and United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. It was created to address conditions resulting from long-standing structural racism and lack of investment that have harmed communities of color and blocked investment in East Buffalo neighborhoods. The BTCRF can only provide funding to nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations.

Thanks to the generosity of more than 100 corporations and foundations, as well as over 2,000 individuals from around the country, the BTCRF has raised $6.2 million and continues to accept donations.

“Fidelis Care is known throughout the state and locally for its dedication to the community and serving our under-resourced neighbors,” said Jason Martin, general manager for LEARFIELD’s Bulls Sports Properties, UB Athletics’ multimedia rightsholder. “I’m thankful we could utilize the platform UB Athletics and our basketball teams provide to grow awareness of the Buffalo Together Community Response Fund, and with Fidelis Care, make a difference to help those impacted by last year’s tragedy and work together toward a more equitable community.”

“Fidelis Care is proud to support important community initiatives like the Buffalo Together Community Response Fund,” said George Rodriguez, Fidelis Care Vice President, Sales & Marketing. “Our partnership with the UB men’s and women’s basketball teams gave us the opportunity to help fight against hunger while supporting some of our favorite local teams. It was a win for everyone.”
