RALEIGH, N.C. – For a second consecutive year, NC State Athletics and its multimedia rights partner, Wolfpack Sports Properties, will pay tribute to agriculture in the state of North Carolina by hosting “Ag Day” festivities Sept. 5-6, 2014. The event culminates with Pack football taking on Old Dominion at 6 p.m. at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Ag Day is dedicated to recognizing North Carolina’s agriculture/agribusiness industry and celebrating those who work hard to improve the state’s health and economy. It will feature lead-in events on Friday, Sept. 5, followed by numerous themed activities and engagement planned for the entire day on Saturday, Sept. 6. Anchored by the NC State College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS), Ag Day receives support from presenting sponsors BASF, Case IH, NC Farm Bureau, North Carolina Soybean Producers Association, Bayer CropScience and Farm Credit Associations of North Carolina, as well as from supporting sponsors Agri Supply, North Carolina Pork Council and CALS.
New this year will be an endowed Ag Day scholarship, presented to an undergraduate CALS student, to complement the growing festivities and sponsorship support in the event’s second year.
“Ag Day celebrates North Carolina’s number one economic industry,” said CALS Dean Richard Linton. “Our college is proud of the partnership with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and with many other agriculture- and agribusiness-related stakeholders in North Carolina. One private screening of the Hollywood documentary “Farmland” will kick off the 2014 Ag Day festivities on Friday, Sept. 5. Students and sponsors are invited to get tickets to watch the film from award-winning director James Moll, who gives an inside look into the lives of young American farmers and ranchers.
On Saturday, Sept. 6, CALS will host its annual alumni tailgate event which will include several statewide youth organizations, and fans can take advantage of the entire Ag Day-themed gameday experience. There will be interactive Fan Zone exhibits, machinery and truck displays, as well as multiple points of ag-engagement once inside the football stadium. In addition to signage and on-field presentations, individuals involved in the North Carolina agriculture industry will be featured in quarterly videoboard segments.
