OneTeam to leverage CLC’s COMPASS platform to offer athletes broad scale licensing opportunities for products such as trading cards, video games, and select other product categories

ATLANTA, GA and WASHINGTON D.C. – CLC, the nation’s leading collegiate trademark licensing company and division of LEARFIELD, and OneTeam Partners (OneTeam), a company that specializes in commercializing the rights of world-class athletes, will work together to offer individual opt-in for co-branded licensing opportunities that combine athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) with collegiate marks and logos. The relationship enables OneTeam and its affiliates to provide a solution that facilitates individual opt-in for college athletes to participate in licensing programs that span multiple schools and sports using CLC’s COMPASS technology platform.

“Our COMPASS NIL platform will help ensure these programs that combine school marks with athlete NIL are done the right way by allowing individual college athletes to opt-in to opportunities from OneTeam while protecting the IP of the institution through approved licensed merchandise.” said Cory Moss, CEO of CLC. “LEARFIELD’s continued investment in COMPASS reinforces its commitment across the entire enterprise to provide innovative solutions for our partner institutions that deliver expertise and value to the college sports market.”

OneTeam will utilize its unparalleled experience maximizing the commercial opportunities of athlete NIL for professional athletes across several leagues to develop select co-branded group licensing deals for college athletes. CLC will continue to work with the more than 700 collegiate institutions it represents to ensure approved use of all logos and branding used on the merchandise.

“As we do for professional athletes, this agreement allows OneTeam to leverage our platform to create unique opportunities to help college athletes maximize their value,” said Malaika Underwood, SVP of Licensing at OneTeam. “The combination of OneTeam’s expertise, along with CLC’s collegiate relationships and technology forms a best-in-class solution for college athletes to opt-in to licensing opportunities. We look forward to bringing these product opportunities to market.”

OneTeam recently announced a multi-year agreement with Panini America, the world’s largest licensed sports and entertainment collectibles company and the exclusive trading card manufacturer of collegiate sports, to produce, distribute, promote and sell trading cards featuring current men’s and women’s college athletes who opt-in to the licensing program via OneTeam or its affiliate, The Brandr Group.  OneTeam will use the COMPASS platform to efficiently manage the inclusion of athletes in the trading card program and additional licensing deals across other product categories and licensees.

OneTeam will continue its work with The Brandr Group to collect individual opt-ins and to notify athletes as licensing opportunities become available.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:

Bubba Cunningham, Director of Athletics, University of North Carolina Athletics: “I have been unwavering in my advocacy of students-athletes’ ability to be a part of group licensing programs, and this approach developed by OneTeam and CLC will bring even more opportunities to market.”

Dan Radakovich, Director of Athletics, Clemson University: “It is important for our University and student-athletes to have a clear path for permissible co-branded activities. Clemson and CLC have a long-standing relationship and we are excited about learning more about OneTeam and how they can further co-branding opportunities.”

John Cohen, Director of Athletics, Mississippi State University: “For years, CLC has developed solutions for our licensing programs and more recently our NIL disclosures through COMPASS, so it makes perfect sense to have them powering the system for OneTeam to help best-position student-athletes to individually opt-in to licensing opportunities.”
