COLUMBIA, Mo. – Veteran Central Missouri TV sports personality Chris Gervino will serve as the color commentator for Mizzou men’s basketball radio broadcasts during the 2017-18 season, University of Missouri Athletics Department and its multi-media rights holder, Learfield’s Mizzou Sports Properties, jointly announced today.
“We’re thrilled to have Chris work alongside Mike to provide Tiger fans a great experience this season,” said Nick Garner, general manager for Learfield’s Mizzou Sports Properties. “Chris has been a valued member of the Tiger Network for the past 25 years, and we’re pleased to have him moving into the role of color analyst on our men’s basketball broadcasts.”
A 1988 graduate of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism and the Sports Director at KOMU 8 since January 2000, Gervino is no stranger to Tiger fans, having served as the sideline reporter on Tiger Radio Network broadcasts since 1992, and calling play-by-play of Mizzou men’s basketball on the statewide Mizzou TV Network from 2000-14.
“I’m excited and honored to be part of the Tiger broadcast team at the University of Missouri, my alma mater, and grateful to Learfield and Mizzou for this opportunity,” Gervino said. “I also appreciate KOMU for allowing me to add this new responsibility, and look forward to working with Mike (Kelly) for an exciting season of Tiger basketball.”
Gervino also served as the radio play-by-play voice for the Arena Football League’s Kansas City Brigade from 2006-08, and before joining the KOMU 8 team in 2000 worked as the Sports Director at KMIZ-TV from 1988-99. He also served as sports director at KFRU Radio from 1992-2001.
He will be joined on the Mizzou broadcast team by the Voice of the Tigers, Mike Kelly, who will start his 27th season behind the mic Nov. 10 when the Tigers tip-off the 2017-18 season and the Cuonzo Martin era against longtime rival Iowa State at 8 p.m. inside a sold-out Mizzou Arena.
