Contribution to Directly Support “Million Meals Challenge” Initiative
RALEIGH, N.C. – For the second consecutive year, UNC Athletics’ partner Auction Direct pledges $1,500 this holiday season to support “Million Meals Challenge” – a collaborative initiative with Harris Teeter and four in-state collegiate rivals Duke, UNC, NC State and Wake Forest.
Today at 10:30 a.m., representatives from the NC Association of Feeding America Food Banks and the University of North Carolina assembled at the Auction Direct location in Raleigh for a celebratory check presentation.
“Auction Direct is a proud partner of UNC Athletics, and we are excited to partner with them again in 2016 to support the Million Meals Challenge,” said Michael Guerrein, marketing director of Auction Direct. “The Big 4 Million Meals Challenge directly benefits so many in our local community, and we are honored to give back in support of these efforts.”
The Million Meals Challenge is a collaborative effort that launched last year to provide one million meals for North Carolinians. Harris Teeter has taken on significant involvement through in-store food drives at area locations, in conjunction with on-campus donations and fundraising at the four universities.

“We’re grateful for the ongoing, yearlong support received by our fans and community for the Million Meals Challenge and thank our partner Auction Direct for again backing this terrific effort,” said Tar Heels Sports Properties General Manager Chuck Schroeder.
The Big 4 MMC endeavor is implemented respectively by the schools’ athletic multimedia rights holders: Blue Devil IMG Sports Marketing (Duke University); Learfield’s Wolfpack Sports Properties (NC State University); Learfield’s Tar Heel Sports Properties (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill); and Wake Forest IMG Sports Marketing.
