As a member of CLC’s Legal Department, the Senior Counsel will be responsible for managing the team responsible for the enterprise’s trademark and other intellectual property work, including overseeing trademark infringement and other enforcement efforts for partner institutions, managing online enforcement and social media take downs, issuing cease and desist letters, and handling online takedowns through third-party online technology vendors. Heavy transactional experience is a must, as this role will involve structuring, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating deals, including agreements with university partners, licensees, and vendors. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated and adept at spotting and analyzing complex legal and business issues on a deal-by-deal basis, protecting our clients with appropriate legal terms and conditions, as well as delivering high-quality legal services and advice to the business.


  • Provide counseling to university partners related to trademark protection, enforcement, and portfolio strategy and management (primarily domestically and sometimes internationally)
  • Create and participate in trainings and presentations and create written guides related to trademarks and other issues affecting university enforcement strategies
  • Collaborate with major professional sports leagues (i.e., MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL), other industry groups, law enforcement, and professional investigators in joint trademark enforcement actions
  • Train law enforcement and private investigators on identifying counterfeit collegiate product and serve as liaison for law enforcement and private investigators for criminal and civil investigations
  • Actively build relationships with legislators and other lobbying groups in connection with strengthening anti-counterfeiting laws
  • Manage Customs-related enforcement work (globally, but mostly domestic), including providing counseling to university partners about the Customs recordation process, filing Customs recordations, and serving as a liaison for Customs and Border Patrol officers
  • Draft and negotiate complex domestic and international trademark license agreements for collegiate, K12, and non-collegiate brands
  • Ensure that appropriate legal protections are contained in agreements, including NCAA, university, and regulatory requirements
  • Support the CLC marketing team by handling rights’ clearances (copyright – video/photography, publicity rights, etc.), clearing proposed marks for use and registration in conjunction with outside counsel, drafting and negotiating influencer agreements, and ensuring promotions comply with privacy laws/regulations, company policies, and best practices
  • Establish and follow consistent approved legal and business processes and policies designed to reduce the company’s legal and business risks
  • Serve as liaison for outside counsel regarding litigation matters
  • Apply innovative problem-solving skills and practical business judgment to balance CLC’s business needs and acceptable levels of risk
  • Manage the activities and professional development of team of legal professionals
  • Foster positive long-term internal business client and external customer relationships.


  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Admitted to the GA Bar and in good standing is preferred
  • 8+ years of transactional legal experience
  • Proven ability to handle (draft and negotiate to execution) a variety of agreements related to intellectual property, including agency agreements, license agreements, influencer agreements, and release agreements
  • Track record that demonstrates a commercial awareness and the ability to understand and effectively counsel on matters relating to agency relationships, intellectual property, licensing and contract law
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills which will enable him/her/them to interact with a range of personalities and styles in a fast-paced business environment and to work effectively with people at many different levels
  • Effective problem-solving approach
  • Strong negotiation skills and excellent drafting and analytical skills
  • Well-organized and with a strong work ethic
  • An upbeat temperament, dynamic personality and highly team-oriented approach to work
