Fanbase, a new product recently launched by the Learfield strategy team, is at the cutting edge of using analytics to unlock the next wave of growth in college sports. By aggregating data across ticketing, sponsorship, digital and social channels, Fanbase helps Learfield and our school partners to better understand how fans engage with college athletics. Our objectives are to increase merchandise & ticket sales, as well as deliver greater marketing efficiency and effectiveness, through traditional and digital campaigns.

As a Junior Data Engineer with Fanbase, you will help drive the development of all Fanbase related technology. The Fanbase team is looking for a candidate with prior SQL knowledge that is looking to learn and grow with this exciting technology.

The ideal candidate will also have some hands-on experience in Azure data technologies including Azure SQL database, Data Factory, Data Lake/Storage Accounts and DevOps.

As a Junior Data Engineer, you will report to the Lead Fanbase Data Engineer. Additionally, you will work closely with all other members of the development team including data analysts, visualization developers, project management and the Fanbase Product Manager.


  • Troubleshoot and evaluate bottlenecks in current ingestion techniques
  • Work closely with front end team for data needs/requirements
  • Design, develop, test data services in current Azure environment
  • Development of technical and “how to” documentation
  • Creation of views, stored procedure, and functions as needed
  • Support and maintenance of the production environment and data pipelines
  • Run adhoc SQL requests for other services in LIMGC’s ecosystem


  • Some familiarity with Azure DevOps CI/CD concepts
  • 1-2 years of hands on experience in T-SQL
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts
  • Experience in building data models
  • Knowledge of structured and semi structured data
  • Knowledge/Experience in Azure cloud technologies including:
    • Azure Data Lake Gen2/Storage Accounts (ADL)
    • Azure Data Factory (ADF)
    • Azure SQL Database
    • Azure DevOps
  • Experience in database administration/performance optimization technologies and techniques, but not required
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Strong desire to learn
