Broadcast Team of Mark Minner, Nick Gardner Return to Call Bulldog Action

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler University Athletics and its multimedia rightsholder, LEARFIELD’s Butler Sports Properties, announced today a new flagship station for Bulldog men’s basketball for the 2021-22 season.

The brand-new broadcast agreement with Cumulus Media Indianapolis calls for WXNT “CBS Sports 1430 AM” to carry all Butler men’s basketball games this season. Cumulus also will promote the Bulldogs on its cluster of owned radio stations. WXNT will air both exhibition basketball games, with the first broadcast on Saturday, Oct. 30 when Butler and Tiffin tip off at 2 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Notably, Butler basketball fans still will hear the popular, familiar voices of Mark Minner and Nick Gardner, who return to the PNC Butler Radio Network. Minner will handle play-by-play duties for the ninth consecutive season alongside Gardner, who enters his 16th season as Bulldogs’ analyst. Another option for fans to listen to Minner and Gardner is through The Varsity Network app, a free user-friendly audio hub which hosts all college sports broadcasts within the LEARFIELD family. Butler basketball fans can set alerts to live stream games to avoid missing Bulldog action on the air.

“We appreciate the continued partnership of PNC Bank throughout Butler Athletics, including the PNC Butler Radio Network,” said Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier. “We are excited to work alongside LEARFIELD’s Butler Sports Properties and Cumulus to make WXNT the radio home of the Bulldogs, highlighted by Mark and Nick, who are tremendous ambassadors for our university and incredibly talented at delivering Butler Basketball action to our loyal fans.”

Complementing the game broadcasts for regular and post-season play on WXNT 1430, fans can listen to Gardner and Minner on the 30-minute pregame and 30-minute postgame shows. The station also will carry a two-hour pregame show at four select home basketball games to be announced later.

Chuck Fredrick, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Indianapolis, said “As the largest and most dynamic cluster of media brands in the state, Cumulus Indianapolis is honored to join the Butler Bulldog team. The fabulous broadcast team of Mark and Nick entertaining Bulldog fans with exciting basketball from iconic Hinkle Fieldhouse and Big East venues creates such a unique experience.”

PNC, official bank of Butler Athletics since 2012, extended its commitment with the university in 2016 by securing naming rights to the Butler Radio Network, which was a first. Butler Sports Properties, the locally based LEARFIELD team that works alongside Collier and the entire athletics administration, oversees the PNC relationship as well as many broadcast aspects for Butler as part of the overarching multimedia rights partnership.
