PLANO, Texas – Learfield IMG College, UVM Athletics multimedia rights holder, announced today that Brian McLaughlin has been named “Voice of Catamount Men’s Basketball” concurrent with the 2020-21 season.

McLaughlin joins the University of Vermont family with a robust play-by-play resume for a young broadcaster, including calling games for the Big Ten Network, multiple Penn State University sports, and working with two minor league baseball broadcast teams. As part of its overall rights relationship with the Catamounts, Learfield IMG College oversees hiring broadcast talent for UVM Athletics.

McLaughlin most recently handled fill-in broadcasting duties for Penn State men’s hockey on the Penn State Sports Network during the 2019-20 collegiate athletics season. In 2019, he also handled play-by-play duties for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox Baseball Club (Mass.). For the Big Ten Network, McLaughlin has been handling play-by-play for women’s basketball, soccer and volleyball, wrestling and softball for various schools within the conference. His previous college sports broadcasting experience also includes serving as general manager/play-by-play broadcaster for Penn State CommRadio in University Park, Pa. McLaughlin hosted two sports shows and handled play-by-play for Penn State basketball, football, hockey, baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer. Additionally, he provided radio play-by-play commentary for all 72 games for the Kalamazoo Growlers Baseball Club (Mich.) in the 2018 season.

“Brian’s diverse portfolio covering Division I basketball, hockey and soccer at Penn State made him standout amongst a series of qualified candidates for this position,” said Director of Athletic Communications and Broadcasting Nich Hall. “He will bring tremendous energy and talent to our basketball broadcasts continuing the fantastic coverage our fans have come to expect in our partnership with Learfield IMG College.”

“I am so honored to be able to represent such a successful program that also cares so much about the culture and character inside the locker room,” said McLaughlin. “I can’t wait to get to Burlington to connect with the fans and community, and to share my passion for broadcasting. I’m grateful to everyone at Vermont and Learfield IMG College who believe in me and trust me to handle this opportunity with such an outstanding program like the Catamounts.”
