BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Athletics and Learfield IMG College, its multimedia rightsholder, announced today that Bryant Johnson will join the Hokies’ broadcast team to call women’s basketball, as well as all baseball, effective for the current 2019-20 collegiate athletics season.

Johnson will relocate from Louisiana, where he formerly served four seasons as “Voice of the Colonels” and assistant athletic director of communications for Nicholls State University. In addition to his play-by-play duties with Hokie women’s basketball and baseball, Johnson will serve as an ACC Network Extra contributor regularly throughout both seasons.

“We’re excited to welcome Bryant to Hokie Nation,” Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said. “We appreciated how many broadcasters from across the nation expressed their interest in working with our baseball and women’s basketball programs at Virginia Tech. Bryant will serve as an excellent addition to our already talented broadcast team.”

At Nicholls State, Johnson hosted the Colonels’ television and radio shows, and handled all ESPN Radio New Orleans’ broadcasts for football, basketball and baseball. Johnson also is the former play-by-play broadcaster for Adams State University in Colorado, where he handled duties for football, women’s and men’s basketball, softball, baseball and lacrosse. He also previously worked with Altitude Sports as host of Walk With The Wolves: All Access With CSU-Pueblo Athleticswhile calling Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference football and basketball games for Altitude. Johnson is a native of Orange, California and graduated from Brown College in Minneapolis.

“Bryant is a great fit for this role, and we believe fans will really enjoy his style, color and play calls,” said Tom Boman, vice president, broadcast operations for Learfield IMG College, which manages all broadcast aspects for VT as part of the rights relationship. “We know he’ll continue to build upon the efforts of Jon Laaser and the rest of the excellent broadcast department.”
