New Television Home for Hornet Football

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State Athletics and its multimedia rightsholder, Learfield’s Hornets Sports Properties, announced that all five Hornet home football games in 2018 will be televised on CW31.

“Having all of our home games televised locally is a big step for Sacramento State,” Director of Athletics Mark Orr said. “This is another way for us to expose our program to the Sacramento community and we look forward to working closely with both CBS13 and CW31.”

The partnership begins with the team’s home opener on Saturday, Sept. 1, against Saint Francis (Ill.) at 6 p.m. CW31 will also televise games against Cal Poly (Oct. 6), North Dakota (Oct. 20), Portland State (Oct. 27) and Northern Arizona (Nov. 10). The package marks the first time in program history that the Hornets have had all home games televised locally.

“We are extremely excited to have this opportunity to showcase our University and student-athletes locally,” Sacramento State head coach Jody Sears said. “This is a tremendous opportunity in recruiting and allows us to show the area what we do and what we are about.”

Sacramento State finished the 2017 season with a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Big Sky Conference games. The Hornets won their final three contests and five of their last six, leading to Sears being named the Big Sky co-Coach of the Year. The team returns 10 players who earned all-Big Sky honors, including defensive end George Obinna and safety Mister Harriel who were both named preseason All-America this summer.
