Cincinnati’s News Radio to Continue Delivering Musketeer Basketball to Fans

CINCINNATI – Xavier University and its athletics multimedia rightsholder, Learfield’s Xavier Sports Properties, announced today that iHeartMedia’s long-term broadcast partnership with the Musketeers will continue for another five years.

Owned by iHeartMedia, 700WLW – Xavier’s flagship station since the 1980s – is a 50,000-watt clear-channel station that covers much of the eastern half of North America at night. The renewed partnership calls for WLW to carry the Musketeers through the the 2022-23 collegiate athletic season as the new term runs concurrent with the 2018-19 season.

“We are excited to extend our partnership with iHeartRadio for another five years,” said Xavier Director of Athletics Greg Christopher. “iHeartRadio provides us with great platforms to connect with our fan base in the Cincinnati area and across the country. It ensures the widest reach possible for our basketball program.”

Throughout the entire Xavier men’s basketball season, the iHeartMedia partnership allows fans to catch complete game coverage on 700WLW, or sister-station 55KRC (WKRC-AM) in select situations. Additionally, the weekly Chris Mack Show, which is hosted live from Delicio Coal Fired Pizza on Thursday nights, will air on ESPN 1530. During games, fans will recognize the continued legendary voice of Joe Sunderman as play-by-play broadcaster, alongside color analyst Byron Larkin, Xavier’s all-time leading scorer.

“We’re proud to continue to deliver Xavier University basketball content on 700WLW and iHeartRadio through this ongoing partnership between Learfield and iHeartMedia Cincinnati,” said DJ Hodge, market president, IHeartMedia Markets Group Cincinnati. “This current basketball season is a prime example of the great content we strive to provide to the Tri-State area, and we look forward to providing Xavier University Athletics’ content through the 2022-23 season.”

XU is one of only eight schools have been to at least 11 of the last 12 NCAA tournaments. Xavier ninth-year head coach Chris Mack, XU’s all-time wins leader, has led the Musketeers to a top 10 national ranking this season and its fifth straight 20-win season.
