University Surgical Associates Aligns with Friars to Bolster Breast Cancer Awareness

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Athletics and its multimedia rights holder, Learfield’s Providence Friars Sports Properties, announced today a brand-new partnership with University Surgical Associates, Rhode Island’s largest multidisciplinary surgical group.

In order to create awareness about breast cancer beyond the month of October, University Surgical Associates is aligning with the Friars on February 14 as presenting sponsor for the Friars-Villanova men’s basketball game. The game tips off at 7 p.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, where University Surgical Associates will have the opportunity to honor their current patients and cancer survivors.

“We are pleased to partner with Providence College to promote this tremendously important initiative,” said William Cioffi, MD, FACS, President of University Surgical Associates. “Breast cancer affects not only the patient, but also their family and friends. On Wednesday night, we honor our patients and join with their loved ones to promote breast cancer awareness.”

As a Friars’ partner, University Surgical Associates will receive exposure for their involvement with the Pink Out game via radio, digital signage and Friars.com visibility.

“We’re pleased and honored to have outstanding support from the team at University Surgical Associates, and welcome them to our Friar family,” said Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll. “The game against Villanova will be extra special this year with the privilege of recognizing those who have battled, and are battling, the toughest game of their lives. We join Universal Surgical Associates in their ongoing efforts to create awareness for breast cancer, and proud to have them as presenting sponsor for our ‘Pink Out’ night to further this message.”

According to Center for Breast Care at University Surgical Associates Director Theresa Graves, MD, FACS, “It is important to remind people that breast cancer awareness extends beyond the month of October. With one in eight women affected in their lifetime, breast cancer awareness should be on our minds all year long. We support Providence College’s decision to use this as a national stage to help spread awareness and we’re looking forward to it.”
