BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSUB Athletics and Learfield’s Roadrunner Sports Properties announced today that a pair of Bakersfield’s favorite food destinations, Salty’s BBQ and Dewar’s, will serve as the official concessionaires for all Roadrunner home contests beginning with the upcoming 2017-18 season.
The three-year relationship with these local favorites is the next step in adding to the fan experience and meeting the demands of increased crowds at CSUB events. With record numbers of season ticket sales already on the books for men’s basketball, this is a proactive move to help provide quality food options for fans that attend home contests. Both Salty’s BBQ and Dewar’s are investing in mobile food-service vehicles to allow for coverage at not only the Icardo Center, but also the Main Soccer Field, Softball Complex and Hardt Field.
Dewar’s Candy Shop and Ice Cream is a famous Bakersfield staple with roots in the community dating back to 1909 with original founders Jim and Lena Dewar. In the 108-year history, Dewar’s famous candy chews and eventually ice cream in 1930, built a sweet-tooth empire that is synonymous with Bakersfield. Along with the ice cream shop opened in 1930 on Eye Street and still operating today, is an additional pair of Dewar’s locations at 2700 Calloway Drive and 11320 Ming Avenue. Several local retail outlets also sell the famous ice cream and candy treats that will be available at CSUB contests.
While not bathed in a long history in Bakersfield, Salty’s BBQ has quickly become a famous eating spot in Bakersfield thanks to a pair of convenient locations, great food and a national television appearance on ‘Diners, Drive-ins and Dives’ featuring celebrity chef Guy Fieri. After years of working in the catering industry, owner Jeff Salter’s started his own catering business in 2010 and then opened the original Salty’s BBQ location at 9425 Rosedale Highway in 2012. Two years later the demand for Salty’s BBQ required the opening of a new location at 6801 White Lane. Along with the two locations, Salty’s also offers event catering and operates the Salty’s Banquet & Event Center located at 6720 Schirra Court.
Salty’s BBQ has been voted the ‘Best of Bakersfield’ by the Bakersfield Californian and Bakersfield Life Magazine each of the last three years.
Along with their concession support during all CSUB athletics home events, Salty’s BBQ and Dewar’s will also become corporate sponsors of the Roadrunners and will be present with facility signage, in-game promotions along with digital and broadcast elements.
