Junior Spartans Program Thrives, Visits Area Schools

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose State University Athletics, Learfield’s Spartan Sports Properties and long-time corporate partner Kaiser Permanente continue their strategic partnership with a focus on the Junior Spartan Kids Club and healthy living, active lifestyles and higher education to underprivileged youth in the area.

The Junior Spartans Program heads into its fifth year with an increased interaction among local youth throughout the South Bay. Aligning with Kaiser Permanente’s dedication to community youth involvement, the Junior Spartans Program promotes teamwork and inspires boys and girls ages 12 years old and younger. Its core fundamentals center on the value of higher learning and encouraging healthy lifestyles through sport and physical activity.

Programming at area schools continues to be a focus as local classroom visits were held in the fall semester, and additional visits are planned for this spring. At each visit, SJSU student-athletes across multiple sports are joined by a doctor from Kaiser Permanente to share with elementary-aged children the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.

“At Kaiser Permanente, we are proud and very excited to partner with the San Jose State University Junior Spartans Program,” said Kaiser Permanente’s Senior Vice President and Area Manager Chris Boyd. “As a sponsor, it emphasizes our mission to support programs that create healthy communities. It also demonstrates our long-range commitment to the children of the South Bay. Through this unique sporting opportunity, kids will learn the importance of teamwork and dedication, as well as be exposed to an institute of high education that is a pillar of our community. It is with great enthusiasm that Kaiser Permanente join forces with the Junior Spartans to help build a stronger, healthier community.”

“We are thrilled to have Kaiser Permanente sign on for another year as title sponsor of the Junior Spartan Kids Club,” said Learfield’s Spartan Sports Properties General Manager Jordan Friedman. “Their continued support of this program has helped sustain the growth and backing and shows their commitment to our community.”

Each Junior Spartan receives a Spartan Pride Backpack full of branded gear and tickets to all San Jose State Athletics events. For more details about the program, benefits and other information, visit https://www.sjsuspartans.com/ot/jr-spartans-main.html.
