COASTAL CAROLINA UNIVERSITY, LEARFIELD LICENSING PARTNERS CREATE CWS MERCHANDISING OPPORTUNITIES

INDIANAPOLIS — The Coastal Carolina University baseball team has certainly made their presence known at this year’s College World Series (CWS) and become one of the most popular teams in Omaha. The Chanticleers’ first-ever CWS appearance has been filled with thrilling victories, creative handshakes and good luck talismans (Rafiki the Rally Monkey and Bruce the Shark are now mainstays in the Chants’ dugout). Add in striking school colors (teal and bronze) and a unique nickname, and it’s no wonder Coastal Carolina licensed merchandise is a hot seller in both South Carolina and in Omaha.

Retailers in CCU’s local and regional market have increased the amount of merchandise available, adding special CWS-inspired merchandise to capitalize on the hot market demand. On-site retailers at TD Ameritrade Park reported that sales of Coastal Carolina merchandise has been incredible, and overwhelming consumer demand has nearly depleted the entire inventory of CCU products.

“It’s hard to say whether it’s the unique teal color, nickname or logo that has been driving sales,” said Brian Eubank, regional vice president for Learfield Licensing. “There are always compelling storylines surrounding the CWS, and Coastal has provided some great on-field moments and have been a fun team to get behind not only for die-hard Chanticleers, but for baseball fans in Omaha. All of those things help us sell more licensed products and expand the brand reach of Teal Nation.”

Learfield Licensing is on-site in Omaha for the final three-game championship series and is prepared should the Chanticleers capture their first national championship in baseball.
