Third Annual “Ag Day” Festivities Set For October 1-3
Raleigh N.C. – NC State Athletics and its multimedia rights partner, Wolfpack Sports Properties, announced today plans for the third annual “Ag Day” which pays tribute to the men and women of North Carolina who are dedicated to the state’s nearly $80 billion agriculture/agribusiness industry.
“The agriculture industry plays a significant role in the state of North Carolina and we are proud to honor this industry once again this year,” said NC State Head Football Coach Dave Doeren. “Ag Day has become one of our signature events and I expect it to be even bigger this season.”
The 2015 festivities will begin on Thursday, Oct. 1, with a student event on campus, and culminate on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Carter-Finley Stadium when NC State plays host to Louisville. Making its debut on Oct. 1 is an Ag Day kickoff for students, to be held at Wolf Plaza near the Talley Student Center on campus. The event will feature complimentary Howling Cow ice cream, and there will be a pre-release of the official Ag Day T-shirts. Friday’s events will focus on the NC State College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS), which will host a sponsor networking event and its annual Alumni Awards ceremony.
On Saturday, CALS will host its 24th annual CALS Tailgate event prior to kick-off in PNC Arena, while Fan Zone, outside the arena, will host family-friendly interactive sponsor exhibits, agriculture machinery displays and photo opportunities. During the game, two undergraduate students will be recognized on field as the inaugural recipients of the Ag Day Scholarships. In addition to these annual scholarships, an endowment was introduced during the 2014 event that will leave a lasting legacy for this significant partnership. Throughout the course of the game, individuals involved in the North Carolina agriculture industry will be featured in video board segments.
“Through NC State’s Ag Day, our university honors those individuals who work to improve the health and economy of our state – on and off the farm,” said Dr. Richard Linton, dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. “The partnership with Ag Day sponsors helps ensure that we continue to produce even more difference-makers in agriculture through the NC State Ag Day Scholarships. We’re proud to be part of this great celebration.”
This year’s presenting sponsors are Farm Credit Associations of North Carolina; Bayer CropScience; KIOTI; North Carolina Soybean Producers Association; Case IH; North Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance; BASF and Lowe’s Foods. Supporting sponsors are Caterpillar; Agri Supply; Southland Dairy Farmers; CALS and the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association.
