New partnership aims to revolutionize mouthguard technology for athletes

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and ECAC Sports Properties announced today a new partnership with GuardLab, a custom mouthguard company.

The one-year partnership is built around general awareness and overall benefit for the student athletes of the ECAC, including on-site event marketing at Championship events to further education surrounding GuardLab technology and the benefits of custom mouthguards.

“We are very encouraged by this partnership and the overall health benefits GuardLab is acknowledging with this product,” said ECAC President and CEO Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss. “The health and safety of our athletes is a top priority for everyone in college athletics. GuardLab is working to perfect one element of this issue with these custom mouth guards, which will hopefully result in better understanding and action for the future of this issue.”

GuardLab is a revolutionary custom mouthguard company that utilizes 3D scanning and 3D printing technologies to effectively reduce the risk of concussions, maximize athletic performance and improved recovery of athletes by increasing airway flow. By using a proprietary methodology developed with two world-class dentists, GuardLab addresses TMJ alignment and is able to precisely transfer the information from the individual to accurately design each guard at a low cost and high quality.

“The guard reduces the susceptibility to concussions by moving the jaw to a more stable position based on the anatomy of the person’s TMJ,” said New England Patriots’ Team Dentist Dr. Gerald Maher. “The condyle is moved downward and forward to a thicker portion of the temporal bone and under the disc of the TMJ. The bone and the disc, since they are anatomically correct and balanced, can withstand more force.”

GuardLab will host a booth at the annual ECAC convention, directly engaging and educating administrators and athletic directors from member schools.
