FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM FOR RAMS
RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Athletics has selected Learfield Sports to represent the Rams’ media and sponsorship sales efforts through the 2024-25 collegiate athletic season, as announced today by VCU Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin and Learfield President/CEO Greg Brown.
Starting with the 2015-16 athletic season, the Richmond, Va.-based “VCU Sports Properties” team will collaborate daily with the athletic administration. This 10-year partnership marks the first time VCU will have an outside entity oversee its athletic multimedia rights. The Learfield Sports sales team, led by General Manager Robby Robinson, will manage all aspects of the Rams’ rights including signage, digital, corporate sponsorships, television and radio play-by-play, and coaches’ shows. Robinson, VCU’s former Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations, also will continue to serve as “Voice of the Rams” leading radio play-by-play.
“On behalf of student-athletes, coaches and staff at VCU Athletics, I welcome Learfield Sports and VCU Sports Properties to RamNation. Learfield Sports has a history of success in the multimedia rights business so we look forward to what VCU Sports Properties can add to our incredible success,” McLaughlin said. “Learfield Sports demonstrated throughout this process that it understands our mission and core values in VCU Athletics. This agreement will help to grow our resources, our national recognition and our ability to create sustainable success for our student-athletes and coaches.”
VCU joins UMass, Rhode Island, St. Louis and Duquesne as other Atlantic 10 Conference members holding individual rights agreements with Learfield Sports.
According to Brown, “VCU is a storied institution with a remarkable reputation and proven excellence in both women’s and men’s sports.”
“Ed and his administration have done an outstanding job building a legacy for the Rams that is undeniable, and we look forward to having the opportunity to now help continue that process and elevate the Rams’ brand both locally and regionally and beyond,” he added.
VCU, located in Richmond, Va., is a part of the Atlantic 10 Conference with 17 intercollegiate programs competing at the NCAA Division I level. The Rams have a long history of athletic success, including the magical 2011 run to the NCAA Final Four and this year’s baseball team making the first Super Regional in school history. This past year, VCU won a school record five conference championships. For more information about VCU athletics, visit VCUathletics.com.
