DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire are pleased to announce the return of a unique program that recognizes the state’s community heroes.

“The Anthem Community Angels program recognizes everyday heroes—people in our local community who have led, created, or otherwise been instrumental in activities that help make our community a better place,” said Justin Barnes, general manager of Wildcat Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports and the multimedia rights holder for UNH Athletics.

“New Hampshire non-profits provide vital safety services for those less fortunate,” Lisa M. Guertin, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire, said. “And those organizations are supported by many selfless volunteers. We’re excited to collaborate with the team on this program to thank and recognize volunteers for all that they do.”

During the Wildcats’ home game against the University of Maine on Jan. 24 (7 p.m.), one honoree will be recognized in a special on-ice ceremony. The selected Anthem Community Angel will receive a team-autographed Wildcats jersey. Anthem will also make a $500 donation in the honoree’s name to a local health-related organization chosen by the honoree.

Fans can visit www.unhwildcats.com and look for the Anthem Community Angels link under Fan Zone to learn more and nominate their Community Angel. The deadline to nominate an Anthem Community Angel is Monday, January 20. For more information, please visit www.unhwildcats.com or contact Barnes at 603-862-4300 x1.

This is the second year Anthem and UNH have teamed up on this program. Last spring, Roger Speidel of Durham received the first ever Anthem Community Angel award for his work at his church in Durham and as a long time donor to the UNH football program. Anthem made a $500 contribution in Roger’s name to the NH Wounded Warrior Project.
