CINCINNATI – Xavier University Athletics and its multimedia rights holder, Xavier Sports Properties, announced today a five-year extension of the radio agreement with Cincinnati-based Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, effective immediately.

Under the agreement, 700 WLW “The Big One” is home to Xavier men’s basketball games, marking a 30-year relationship between the news/talk station and the Xavier Musketeers.  Additionally, Clear Channel’s WKRC “55KRC” will weekly air a one-hour Chris Mack Show, and its ESPN 1530 WCKY will broadcast The Musketeer Report, a daily radio segment on Xavier Athletics.

Since 1984, the 50,000-watt 700 WLW station has been bringing Xavier hoops to Midwest fans throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.  The top-rated radio station is a staple on Xavier’s Radio Network, which is overseen entirely by Xavier Sports Properties.  At night, 700 WLW’s signal can be heard across much of the eastern half of the U.S. and Canada and as far west as Denver.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to extend our relationship with Xavier, capping off what already has been a legendary partnership,” said Chuck Fredrick, Market President of Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Cincinnati.  “There’s no doubt we will continue to deliver the quality game broadcasts our 700 WLW listeners expect, and we’re also committed to providing equally exceptional Xavier programming on our sister stations.”

Xavier University Athletic Director Mike Bobinski says “partnering with Clear Channel ensures the widest reach possible and provides a great platform to connect with our fan base.  We’re very pleased to make this commitment for another five years.”

“There’s a lot to be said for this long-time radio partnership and we’re glad to have Clear Channel on board for another five years.  We believe Xavier fans in the greater Cincinnati radio reach strongly agree,” said Tom Koenigsfeld, general manager for Xavier Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports.
