San Diego State Athletics and its multimedia rights partner, Aztec Sports Properties, announced today a new relationship with Hawthorne CAT and the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank to collect needed food items for the San Diego community.

CEO of Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, J. Scofield “Scody” Hage, said “Getting more food donated to the Food Bank will be critical this year with demand continuing to soar.  We are currently feeding more people than ever before in the Food Bank’s 35-year history.  But it is due to the help of supporters like Hawthorne CAT that we are able to meet the increased need.  We would encourage the community to support Hawthorne CAT’s food drive and donate non-perishable food items for people in need in our community.”

In order to help the collective goal of raising more than one ton of food, people in the community are encouraged to bring food donations to any of the Hawthorne CAT locations and place their items the designated red bins.  For every five items of food donated, Hawthorne CAT will provide a complimentary ticket for the Aztecs’ October 27 game against the UNLV Rebels. Donations will be accepted at all Hawthorne CAT locations through October 26 during normal business hours.

“We are honored to be affiliated with the San Diego Food Bank and proud to be a sponsor of San Diego State Athletics,” said Hawthorne CAT’s Vice-President of Sales and Marketing David Ness.  “Please help us score a few touchdowns for those in need and donate your food items today.”

The San Diego State Aztecs’ game tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Details about the food drive and drop-off locations.

“This is a terrific initiative, and we’re pleased the Aztecs have the opportunity to partner with Hawthorne CAT and the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank in order to help and give back to our immediate community,” said Jeff Bolitho, general manager for Aztec Sports Properties, which worked alongside SDSU Athletics to coordinate the effort with Hawthorne.
