The University of Wisconsin-Madison athletic department is parlaying the success of its high-profile sports teams into a reworked media rights agreement with Learfield Communications.
On Friday, the UW System’s Board of Regents signed off on a revised contract between Learfield and UW-Madison that’s projected to be worth an additional $6.6 million to the athletic department over the next seven fiscal years. That figure is on top of the $52.5 million the original deal was expected to net the university between July 1 of this year and June 30 of 2019.
The reworked contract with Learfield also extends the current contract through the 2023-24 fiscal year, with annual payments for the additional five fiscal years averaging a projected $9.4 million.
The Board of Regents’ Business, Finance and Audit Committee gave the OK to the deal Thursday, and the full board approved the new contract without discussion Friday.
