Lawrence Cunningham recipient of Rotary scholarship
Lawrence Cunningham, an account executive with Cyclone Sports Properties, has received a $1,500 scholarship to attend the Leadership Iowa program this year through the Iowa Association of Business and Industry. Cunningham, who currently serves on the board for the Rotary Club of Greater Des Moines, is the first recipient of the Perea and Perea Leadership Award, created by Rita Perea, charter president of the Rotary Club of Greater Des Moines, and her husband, Dr. Ernest Perea, a charter member of the same club.
Through the Rotary District 6000 Humanitarian and Education Foundation, the Pereas have established a scholarship to be awarded to a Rotarian in good standing who practices the “Service Above Self” principles. The Pereas anticipate awarding three to five scholarships to Rotarians per year.

Learfielders pitch in with time, sweat and love
Thanks to Brownfield Network Reporter Julie Harker for this update –with pix– from a recent Habitat for Humanity work day.
“I was one of four Learfield employees who worked with other volunteers on a Habitat for Humanity house in Jefferson City last Saturday. After hanging vinyl siding, three of our coworkers brought us lunch. It was great to watch the siding go up and work side by side with one of the home owners and a potential home owner. It was SO hot, I hope they earned extra points for their “sweat equity.” Learfield volunteers are going to work several more Saturdays through September on this six-bedroom house, the
city’s 59th Habitat house.”

Learfielders pitch in at Habitat for Humanity
Thanks to all the Learfield folks who took part in the first weekend of our work with River City Habitat for Humanity. And to Aaron Worsham who shot and edited this brief video.

Jefferson City friends building a home
Here’s a first! Learfield-Mid-Missouri is going to build a Habitat for Humanity home this summer.
I'm encouraging everyone to be a part. Aaron Worsham and some of his friends have been pushing for this. It'll be Jefferson City’s 59th home and the partner family is James and Kelly Diehl. (In Habitat, the occupying family must contribute 450 hours to the building of their home, plus their monthly house payment).
We’ve been assigned the 4th Saturday of the month starting June 27th. Obviously other companies and organizations will be working too. It will be great fun working together and watching this home “go up”. Put June 27th, July 25th and August 22nd on your calendar. You can get started earlier if you’d like as this coming Saturday is the first workday at the site: 1106 East Atchison. Whether you work this Saturday or not, you’re invited to be there at 11:00am for the “framing ceremony”, followed by lunch provided by Lee’s Chicken.
Everyone can do something. If you’d prefer not to work alongside your Learfield friends on June 27th, come anyway and help serve lunch. We’ll have more details later, but we wanted you to get this on your calendar. Bring your friend or spouse too. The more the merrier!

Buffaloes’ Habitat for Humanity

The Learfield Sports team at Colorado worked this week on a Habitat build. L-R: Lance Gerlach, Lawrence Cunningham, and Andrew Wheeler.
Tell you what, friends, I am so impressed with the men and women of Learfield and how they reach out and personally help the less fortunate in their communities. This is but one example; I’ve written about others and will continue to do so.
Giving back to the kids of Toledo
Kudos to our Toledo crew in their volunteer work in that city. The staff is helping with daily afternoon activities — basketball and baseball at the Boys and Girls Club. John Hawks said they were surprised at how much the children valued their attention. "They’re begging us to come back." Good work, guys! Proud of you.

San Antonio Homes
My hands are bruised and bloody. My back… oh my aching back! Just returned from Learfield Sports Manager’s University in San Antonio. We learned tons, ate great barbecue, AND helped build four Habitat for Humanity homes (Flickr set – sideshow) as a service project yesterday afternoon.

Roger got some great pics and you can see them all.
